Sets up donation drive for Kashmir flood relief, rallies support from TV star Mona Singh

New Delhi, October 21st 2014: Bridge to Kashmir, an initiative by the iYogi Foundation, has partnered with HyperCITY Retail, one of India’s leading hyper stores to support Jammu and Kashmir flood victims. HyperCITY has set up collection centers in four of its stores across Mumbai and Punjab, where shoppers can donate flood relief material before October 25th. Popular TV actress Mona Singh has pledged her support and will be present at selected stores to encourage donations.

Vishal Dhar from the iYogi Foundation said, “While the economic loss caused by the flood in Jammu and Kashmir is currently estimated at 6000 crores, the social impact is immeasurable. We need to get schools, hospitals and other social infrastructure such as orphanages and homes rebuilt at the earliest. In addition, micro-enterprises and small entrepreneurs, especially those in remote areas need special attention, and Bridge to Kashmir is aimed at helping these communities. Support from the corporate sector, such as this initiative by HyperCity is much needed, and appreciated.”

Leading this initiative, Mr. Vipin Bhandari, CEO HyperCITY Retail said, “As a responsible corporate entity, HyperCITY Retail believes that it is our duty towards our country to stand strong during this hour of need. We pledge our support and request our customers to contribute towards the relief work through this initiative.  iYogi Foundation’s Bridge to Kashmir is working with the intent of rebuilding the lives of people in Kashmir and we are glad to partner with them in bolstering their efforts. The response has been tremendous, also a huge thanks to Mona Singh who readily agreed to support and give us time for this event today.”

Mona Singh said, “It’s very disheartening to see the state fall apart in such a multitude. I am proud to be associated with this initiative and congratulate both HyperCITY Retail and Bridge To Kashmir for driving it with passion. I also urge and request the people to step forward and to do their bit. While the nation celebrates and enjoys festivities lets come together and enlighten the homes of our fellow citizens too.”

Bridge to Kashmir is an initiative of the iYogi Foundation, a non profit set up by iYogi. The website is a crowd sourcing platform which combines volunteer activity with fund raising and the collection and distribution of essential relief material. The long-term goal is to rebuild homes, schools, orphanages and other social infrastructure, along with assisting micro-enterprises and artisans in reviving their livelihood. iYogi’s field teams and a group of volunteers will regularly assess the on ground needs in rural and urban areas of Jammu & Kashmir, identifying people and activities that require support. The platform also connects volunteers with the right NGO’s looking for support, and vice-versa.
